Team DeSantis Targeted FL Donors With State Biz as Campaign Unraveled: Report
DESPERATE TIMES
The last days of Ron DeSantis’ 2024 presidential campaign were partly financed by Florida donors who had companies that benefited from state decisions, according to a report. People involved in fundraising efforts for the Florida governor’s ill-fated run for the White House told The Washington Post that the dependence on such donors was born of necessity, with major Republican political donors largely choosing to support other candidates in the second half of 2023. One person who received a call told the Post that the pitch they were given about contributing to a super PAC supporting DeSantis’ run for president was that he would probably end up still being a powerful governor in Florida. DeSantis’ chief of staff and former campaign manager called the premise of the Post’s article “entirely false.” “Anybody working closely with the governor, such as I do, knows he is a man of unwavering principle and he would be the last person to grant access or state favor in exchange for political support, as your article suggests,” he said in a statement.
